rath, i dont think you have anything to worry about when it comes to people here who would think you a bad person for expressing those views. nor would you be considered especially brave, since everyone here but me agrees with you. why people of your persuasion constantly need others to validate them, i will never know. for the record, the catholic church does not advocate blind faith. this is why whole libraries around the world have been filled with expositions on the faith over the centuries. but hey, its easier to stop going to church and criticize those that do than it is to READ i guess, so thats what you guys do.

I have to agree with you on the church. It is one of the reasons I have a problem with organized religion. The hypocrisy that they create in the day-to-day practice of the catholic faith is one of the reasons I am not a catholic any longer. I whole-heartedly agree with you that the praying to saints, the Virgin Mary and now the Pope is completely out in left field. What happened to the first commandment? I am your lord God and you shall not worship any before me. Fairly straight forward there. Then let us look at the Crucifix that is in every Catholic Church. Can anyone say Idolaters? The cross is the symbol of the Christian faith, but the crucifix is the idol of the Catholic faith. Not to mention the fact that the bible has been translated through 6 languages over 2000 years. In the first book, there is the creation of Adam twice! That is a different argument all together tough. Now saying all this, some of you may think that I am a bad person. I happen to be a religious person who is a practicing minister. I just have a problem with people that have BLIND faith. Organizations that are out for their own benefits and not that of the people that they are supposed to be helping.

wow, bronze, you realize that was one huge run on sentence surrounded by a bunch of others, right? that didnt make a lot of sense. it reminded me of that scene in the crow where they were talking about taping skank and playing back what he said in slow motion.

Please.. no.. dont you understand? could you not understand?! its.. its.. just to much, The world is more than your little mind, my little mind, and even that really smart guys little bigger than little mind. The religion, any religion, is a belief in something that is impossible to prove, and impossible to comprehend, all of it is storys now, legend and those who spend thier time reading it all. If this man, was to go and discover that "Hey! the planet was made by a bunch of space rock collideing in space!. and life was created by the mixture of gasses that were released from the inside of these rocks and traped by the gravitational pull of the astrodes combined form!" or the even better... and by better i mean diceyer discovery " the universe was started by a giant floating pink hippo, that just loved to eat catholics..." ok that really isnt it, but you can fill in what ever crack pot theory currently holds sway in your current mental state. the point is, if he said "wow existence is because of X", the usual sterotipical band of merry men i know flow through most peoples minds when they think of the catholics, or rather god loveing or understanding people in general would utter " uhh god made X" or even better "GOD IS X!" and the happy people of the athiest/ people who dont really take offense to plausable scienentific research (and yes i group athiest in its own little courner, because thats where they place themselves most of the time anyway, cut out the middle man as much as i can) would utter "well of course you people would say such a thing, your childish attitudes will be a dredge on our society till the end of time..".. thats an extream assumption, but im provideing the two faces of the same coin, the middle of course cant make up its mind for either.... .. anyway, the world is on sides, people are on sides, if X is god, or not, it really doesnt matter, it only takes A to say X is god for B to not aggree, and say A is wrong and split with A, and C thinking both are idiots, seperates as well, then B splinters into shards of discontent. Then D, finding such things insulting decides A-C no longer deserves thier existence... A man such as the pope, or really any pope in this part of the time line would want such a horrible chain of events to never happen and do anything in his power to stop it.. To sit there and call them hypocrits is fine, gehead, they are more dissapointed then angry or upset... and if you really thought there was some big conspiricy, and the pope wanted all that research destroyed, he would have it done, you would never hear about it, or that it ever even could have existed.. you do relize how much wealth they have accumulated? how many followers they have? how long thier reach is? men of faith, men who read the bible as a book of storys that god passed down for us to emulate, not mirror, to take thier meanings and apply them to our lives, they can be, all the non cultural stuff, dont want you to hate science, to kick a cripple in the face just because he wants to find a greater meaning, a answer the the equation that is life, they and I personally, only wish that people look ahead, past thier own lives, and see what alittle push can do, what a free flown word, or even a gesture can accomplish for destruction and creation, often both. they want lives to be lived, not taken, people to see and not find themselves in doubt of the meaning of everything they have done... For hard working good men, get what they work for, evil doing hard working men reap equally from what they sow, you see not the judgments from god, lighting from the sky smiteing those who dare trespass agiants the single working father or mother, for as Cain would have said "I am not my brother keeper" and if you read the bible, understand what that passage means, then you understand that those who understand could never mean any harm.

frek, honestly. it is a christian tenet. again, and i should not have to repeat myself when you can simply scroll down, Christianity is not based on some guy saying some stuff you agree with or not. it is based on Jesus dying on the cross and rising again. Christ has children, all of us. if He is really a he and did not die on the cross and there is proof of this than we should all stop going to church and forget the moral lessons of Christianity all together. honestly, that idea is offensive. if your supposedly broad mind is unable to comprehend that then i suggest it is not so broad as you say. kurt, i will not apologize for getting all political on your blog. if you dont like it, stop insulting your mothers religion in the first place. given, pope john paul the second should not go down as historys greatest pope. and i agree he should not have been thought of for sainthood. i also agree that if he said what he said to hawking that that is wrong. the church in past centuries welcomed science, believing true science and true religion are not in conflict. hence we are able to use computers based on the work of Ohm, Volta, Ampere, LaPlace, Bernoulli, and others. all Catholics. we can cure many diseases based on Louis Pastures groundbreaking work. they were from a regrettably different time in history. all that and their faith is forgotten, and now criticized by those who know no better, and are lesser in terms of deeds and mental acumen.

Trabant, read a little closer - I said I hoped, not that I knew. The Da Vinci code is fiction, yes, but I still like the thought. I just liked the thought - and I was giving bugz a new direction to look in, instead of trashing on tilga. BTW - something else for you to find: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apocrypha.

oh, come on, I'm getting kind of sick of people debating about th e davinci code I mean the fact is: the book was written as a work of fiction, no matter how mutch we would like to think that Jesus was a father it doesn't make it true, and bro you said all that trash about "the reason for it is that God gave me a brain and the ability to use it." come on listening to what someone else speculates and writes down in a fictional book and taking it as a fact or even possability is not "using your brain" in short who really cares I mean are you going to belive a book someone recently wrote or the oldest intact history book known to man (the dead sea scrolls).

Okay Bugz, time to see how open your mind is. First off, I am a Christian. I grew up in a very conservative christian religion. I know the Bible, I know the history, and I live for, beleive, and follow Him. But - I also do not buy into alot of what mainstream Christianity has held dear, and the reason for it is that God gave me a brain and the ability to use it. The first thing you should do, is find the history of a roman emporor named Constantine, and a group known as the Council of Lycea. Lycea was spelled several different ways - so keep hunting until you find who they were and what they did. Now - on a personal note - I am a father, and to truly be a father is the single greatest thing that a man can experience and be. I hope that Jesus was in fact married like every other good Jewish boy was, and I hope that in the course of being One of us, in living among us and sharing our experience, that He did in fact have children, since that is the single greatest calling we will be held too. And oh yes, it's about time someone turned around the backwards role that women have held in Christianity once and for all. Even if they do use a bit of fiction to do so.
